چکیده

The first industrial revolution has led to a world-wide emphasis on the adoption of industrialisation as the quickest route for rapid economic development. This has forced large-scale import of technologies – both poor and moderate in quality by the developing countries (Maudgal, 1998). All industrial production processes depend upon natural resources for both inputs (source) and disposal of wastes (sink). Environmental problems crop up (Tare and Chaudhari, 1995) when the input demand is beyond the regenerative capacity at the source and/or when the wastes overwhelm the recycling and/or adsorptive capacity at the sink (see Fig. 1). The pressure on the source and sink is determined by the efficiency of the process that depends among the other things, on the type of technology applied. It is clearly evident from Fig. 1 that, efficiency improvement in technology would possibly lead to reduced pressure on the resource base, both on the source and sink resulting in increased production of goods and services.

possibility of very selective separations that depend on the geometry of the molecules to be separated rather than the more generalized solubility mechanisms acting in gas}liquid chromatography. It should be theoretically possible to design adsorbents for particular separations. In the branch of liquid chromatography known as afRnity chromatography, for example, it is already possible to manufa...

Separation of Aromatic and Alcoholic Mixtures using Novel MWCNT-Silica Gel Nanocomposite as an Adsorbent in Gas Chromatography

The separations of alcohols with hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts, and the separation of aromatic mixtures, are extremely important processes in gas and petroleum industries. Choosing an adsorbent for performing this separation is the most important part of the process. Silica gel is used as an adsorbent is various techniques such as pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and gas and liquid chromatog...

Separating mixtures by exploiting molecular packing effects in microporous materials.

We examine mixture separations with microporous adsorbents such as zeolites, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), operating under conditions close to pore saturation. Pore saturation is realized, for example, when separating bulk liquid phase mixtures of polar compounds such as water, alcohols and ketones. For the operating conditions used in industrial pr...

Triphenylamine-functionalized magnetic microparticles as a new adsorbent coupled with high performance liquid chromatography for the analysis of trace polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in aqueous samples.

Triphenylamine (TPA)-functionalized magnetic microspheres (Fe(3)O(4)/SiO(2)/TPA) were prepared and applied as solid phase extraction (SPE) adsorbents for the analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in environmental samples in combination with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) conditions affecting the extraction efficiency were ...

Selective Extractions by Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs)

Sample preparation is often the rate-limiting step in analytical methods and its effectiveness has a critical impact on accuracy, quantification and, ultimately, the precision of any measurement. Traditionally, liquid–liquid extraction methods are frequently used for the extraction of organic analytes from aqueous samples. To overcome some of the disadvantages of liquid–liquid extraction (e.g.,...
